I fell in love with fitness 20 years ago. It began with me sweating it out in my living room to my mother’s VHS tapes, which inspired me to find and then eventually become a trainer at a small fitness studio.

That was almost 20 years ago!

At around the same time I also found circus arts: beginning with flying trapeze, then other aerial arts and partner acrobatics.

Circus arts was a great outlet for many of my loves: theater, dance and moving my body in different ways. It challenged me in many ways: my strength, my trust in myself and others and overcoming limiting thoughts I had about myself.

I knew I wanted to become a personal trainer and fitness educator two years into the fitness journey. After a chance meeting with a woman who owned her own fitness gym, I was invited to become part of the team. She mentored me to become a personal trainer and pursue certifications in Pilates and Yoga. I look back on those early days of 2002 with fond memories.

I love being a coach. I love working with people and seeing where their fitness journey takes them. I love watching people find love for their body and all the amazing stuff it can do!

If I’m honest, I knew I wanted to be a coach and a teacher as early as the tenth grade. It was my phys. ed. teacher, Mr. Nuttall, who inspired me. He was raw and edgy and really all out of f**ks to give. And he made a skinny little teenager (me) feel welcome and capable.

At around the same time, my mom gave me a bench and a set of weights for Christmas, so I began lifting weights in my basement. I had no idea how much the experience would impact me. I’ve never been the biggest or the strongest (or frankly, the most manly) person, but getting physically stronger changed me.

Something about the combination of Mr. Nuttall actually giving a sh*t and my own experiences with lifting left me feeling determined to help others like me to feel more at home with exercise so that they could find the sense of strength and confidence I experienced.

While I take my mission to help as many people to get fit and find their inner badass very seriously, I was raised with British grandparents who warped my mind by exposing me to British humor from a very young age…so suffice it to say I have an appreciation for silliness.

All my life my biggest goal has been to help people become the best version of themselves. Growing up, I struggled a lot with depression, anxiety, and self-hate. This prompted me to go on a personal self-loving journey to find myself and my purpose. I gravitated towards different books, classes/programs, remedies, conventions, etc. Whatever it was, you name it, I tried it!

To be honest, a lot of it worked and most of it didn’t. It took a while to find a system that worked for me. Now I can confidently say “Hey self, I love you!” without it feeling like a big fat lie. Part of the success I’ve felt came from healing not just my mind, soul, and emotions, but my physical body as well which is just as important!

I practiced Pilates in my room for years, watching video after video..until one day I realized working out just wasn’t as much fun alone than with others. As humans we work better together! So I booked a plane ticket and got POP Pilates certified because I thought, hey why not teach some classes too? Along with my spiritual readings/healings. That’s what brought me here today to assist others on what I have learned on my journey through this beautiful thing we call life.

While I grew up playing sports, it wasn’t until college that I truly discovered my passion for fitness. The campus gym was the place I would go in my free time, and strength training became a habit. Beyond getting stronger physically, I liked the confidence I gained from following a routine and making healthier choices. 

My interests later expanded beyond the weight room. I caught the running bug in 2013 while training for my first road race and have participated in many events since then—ranging from the 5K to marathon distance. I’ve also met a lot of amazing humans through training and socializing with local running groups. 

Whether out on a run or swinging a kettlebell, I love to move. I became a personal trainer to share that passion and meaningfully contribute to the health and fitness community, which has given so much to me. My mission is to serve others and help them build strength both mentally and physically, do activities they enjoy, and achieve their goals.

As children, we learn by example. Which can make it difficult to learn your own truth if your examples exist in a narrow demographic. I didn’t hear the term LGBT until I was a teenager. I didn’t learn witches were real until high school. I didn’t know gender went beyond the binary until college. And it wasn’t until I reached full adulthood that I had been exposed to a diverse enough pool of examples to find my full truth.
I started testosterone in 2020 and discovered I could love the sound of my own voice. In 2021 I had gender-affirming surgery and discovered I could love existing in my own body. With that new love came another new sensation: the desire to make my body healthier.
You see another example set for child-me was that the goal of exercise was to lose weight. Being naturally thin, I never had a “need” to workout or exercise regularly. Even going into adulthood I viewed exercise solely as a means to become a thinner woman or a more muscular man. The culture around gyms did not appeal to me at all.
Today I am, thankfully, much wiser and know that fitness doesn’t have to be about vanity. It can be about health and fun! I like my body the way it is, but I still have fitness goals. Having enough stamina to ride my bike around the neighborhood on warm days; building enough muscles that I can cosplay a superhero; most importantly, having enough endurance that I can keep up with my young child all day!
That’s what I hope to bring to the world. I want to be the example that I needed to see when I was young. So often we see people try to hate themselves into changing into a “better” version of themselves. I want to help people discover that loving themselves is a much more efficient motivator for achieving the changes they actually want to make.

I watch my humans do their fitness thing all the time so I’ve learned a thing or two and I’m great at encouragement. I’ll be around the gym as well, helping to cheer you on while you’re working out.

I love to give kisses and if you let me, I’ll lick the sweat off you post workout.

I know a few skills like sit, paw, down (short for lie down) and sit pretty. I have an auto-immune disease so I can’t have treats for my skills, but if you want to give me something for my demonstrations, my parents have the treats I can eat.

I can’t wait for us to be friends.
